The medal features the Lillehammer Olympics logo, the Olympic rings, and pictograms of the various sports. The wooden box in which the medal is housed has a lid that can be folded out so that the wooden box can stand with the medal visible. On the lid is a metal badge with the Olympic logo.
The participant medal was awarded to individuals who belonged to the various official Olympic teams and LOOC employees during the Olympics. The medal was designed by M. Kleppan.
